Hyundai likely will break its U.S. sales record sometime this week, reports Edmunds.com's AutoObserver. The Korean automaker also will surpass 500,000 U.S. sales this year, a goal it thought it would hit in 2007 but didn't.
The brand, however, continued to remain strong, even through, the downturn, increasing its marketshare to 4.8% this year through October. Consider this -- in 1998, Hyundai's share was a measly 0.6%.
What's new for Hyundai this year is its explosive growth in leasing penetration which in October was at 17.8% -- up from 3.1% last October.
